Summary
HEY, THE WORLD IS ENDING. Great, now that we have your attention, letโs get into the website. Our project is a website that informs people about the dangers of climate change, the types of greenhouse gases, and what they can do to stop global warming. We offer instructions on our website about what to do. First, learn about climate change. Second, take a quiz on the topic. Then post a photo of you being a good global citizen on all social media using #TeamClimateZ. We wanted to benefit the world by using social media, and as generation Z kids, we have witnessed first-hand the power of social media. P.S. Feel free to post a picture and tag us using #TeamClimateZ.
How We Addressed This Challenge
What did you develop?
As a team, we worked together and collaborated to create/develop a website regarding climate change/global warming.
Why is it important?
It is important because people of all ages should be informed of what's going on in the current world and what will happen if we don't care for it now. All of us need to play our role in this world as global citizens so that we don't go down in history as people who didn't care and respect Earth.
What does it do & how does it work?
When a user clicks on the link, he/she will directed our website "Sustaining our Planet for Future Generations." Here the user will be able to learn all about climate change/global warming. After the user is informed, the user can take a quiz located in the "QUIZ" tab to test his/her understanding of climate change. Finally, the user is encouraged to take action and be a global citizen by doing something to help stop global warming from happening. He/she is then asked to post her action on social media with the #TeamClimateZ so that the message spreads.
What do you hope to achieve?
We hope that this website brings attention to global warming and informs people about it so that others can take action and become global citizens.
How We Developed This Project
What inspired your team to choose this challenge?
What inspired our team to choose this challenge was the thought of an Earth that was uninhabitable in the future. Life would cease to exist on Earth, and that painted a scary picture in my head. We think that it is our duty to give back what we took from the Earth.
What was your approach to developing this project?
We decided on various things to do to approach this project, like animation, slides, etc. However, in the end, we decided to create a website. First, we wanted to educate the user by informing her about climate change/global warming. Then, we allowed the user to demonstrate what he/she learned through a quiz. Finally, we came up with a challenge that the user could do and post on any social media platform to spread awareness, as today social media is the place to go to get your message out.
What tools, coding languages, hardware, software did you use to develop your project?
For this project, our team used the software WIX and HTML to achieve the end product of a website.
What problems and achievements did your team have?
We had many roadblocks and hurdles to overcome throughout the competition. The biggest one was working online because most websites only allow one editor at a time. We overcame that task by making one person edit the project, and one person was writing information in an online document. Nevertheless, we managed to pull through and finish the project by the deadline!
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project
The NASA data was used in our project as evidence to back up the dangers of global warming, as well as to show why it is important for us to take action toward global warming now before it is too late.
