What did I develop?
I developed "YourEarth"; an app that fetches all the data related to your location and stores them right at your fingertips. It is an mobile application (iOS and Android) built with React Native within only a day.
Why is it important?
YourEarth shows you what is REALLY important and what MUST be done right at your fingertips. It helps solve the issue of deforestation, one of the main reasons of climate change. It tackles deforestation in a clever and fun way such as to inspire the youths of today to contribute to the earth.
What does it do?
YourEarth is an app that shows all the current news related to environment categorized according to your selected area. It shows the weather of the selected area with all details. The most important part of this app, it shows you the current pollution rate in your area and steps to solve it in a creative way. With the help of this app, one can plant a tree with only a click. This has made planting trees easier for those who wants to contribute to planet earth.
How does it work?
YourEarth is an app created with React Native and NASA DATA. This app cleverly uses NASA DATA and only fetches out the relevant information and displays them at your screen. This was done with the help of api.nasa.gov and data.nasa.gov.
What do I hope to achieve?
I hope that people use this app as a competitive playground and compete with each other as to who can plant more trees and earn more badges. Earning badges, planting trees and donating to climb up the leaderboard will be a fun and competitive way to contribute to earth.
I am always looking for how to change someone's life even if by little in a good way. This challenge caught my eyes because if I can tackle this challenge, I can change the life of millions of people.
As a team of only one person, it was quite a difficult challenge to tackle. For this reason I decided to use React Native instead of Java to build this app quicker. I used Figma to plan out the design of the app.
I used NASA DATA and many different APIs to tackle this challenge. Some of then are:
I used EONET from NASA API to collect news about recent natural calamities.
I used OpenWeather API to grab weather details.
I used GeoLocation API to get ones location.
I used AirVisual API to get Air Quality.
