Summary
Katia is a teenager virtual influencer from the future. She comes from 2100 and her main goal is to push teenagers ,mainly, and everyone to care about the planet in order to save her people and her generation.Katia has her own Facebook and Instagram pages where she posts stuff and where you can chat with her at any time. Katia will tell you a lot about what happened to the planet in her time and will suggest solutions that you can apply to save the Earth. Katia also has her own website where she posts blogs about what people can do to save the planet, and where she presents graphs from her own time period.
How We Addressed This Challenge
We developed a personality (virtual influencer from 2100) who is living in a world where climate change had lots of impact. In other words, the influencer is a bot who is trained on several datasets to read from them and gives people insight about it when they ask her about how things are in her time or how will carbon emissions impact the air quality for example. The importance of the project is not in its technology stack, but it is in the fact that it touches the user's heart. The user will communicate with someone who has a name, a family, an age, a nationality, and more importantly a personality. The workflow of the bot is simple, it gets a message from the user, makes a request from the flask API, gets the data and tries to facilitate it and avoid the statistics talk. The data was trained with the SARIMA model to get accurate predictions for the datasets that we collected from the NASA platforms and external platforms. We really hope that this project convinces people that what they are doing is wrong and harmful for the environment and that if they persist on their actions, it will only lead to a hard time in the future for our children.
How We Developed This Project
Inspiration: We mainly got our inspiration from the fact that humans have always been taking Earth and nature for granted, which lead to careless actions towards. These actions became the reason behind several phenomena such as global warming or the extinction of several species. Despite the plethora of solutions out there that focus on showcasing the impact of these actions or the ones that focus on sensitizing people. Many of them fail simply they can not touch the heart of the users. Hence, the idea behind our application
Project Approach:
The project consists of 4 main parts:
- Prediction: this part consists of models trained using Nasa data to predict sea levels, ice volumes, land and ocean temperature, and carbon emission in the future. These predictions rely on the SARIMA model due to its accuracy and efficiency.
- API: We made a Flask API that uses the generated .csv files from the prediction models to give data to our Bot.
- The bot: this part consists of training the bot using wit.ai by Facebook, we also used a node server hosted on Glich to write code for the intents and get the prediction data from the prediction API, turn it into easy understandable language, and return it to the user. In this part we integrated the bot to work on Messenger and Instagram by creating a Facebook page and Instagram account for Katia and linking it to the node server using a Facebook app.
- Katia's website: the website is a place where you can chat with Katia, find Katia's Facebook page and Instagram account, and find blogs written by Katia. It also has a page that relies on the results of the predictions (through the predictions API) in order to provide graphs about the prediction data for students and anyone who likes numbers and statistics.
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project
We used space agency data in order to predict sea levels, ocean and land temperatures, carbon emission, and ice area. This data helped to predict how sea levels and the other parameters are changing in the future. We also used NASA blogs to know about what impact can each aspect have on our heroine's scenario. Which makes the NASA data the building blocks of Katia's back story and universe
