Sustaining Our Planet for Future Generations

There is concern worldwide that environmental issues we face today will have an impact on future generations. Your challenge is to create a way to communicate the importance of environmental responsibility to people of all ages.

Sustaining our Planet for Future Generations

Summary

Education is one of the most effective tools to convey a message. Green Caribbean strives to increase awareness about burdens that will be placed on future generations. Through the education system, children will be taught about the problems that we currently face from an early age and the impact that they will have. Current known solutions will be communicated to children to form healthy habits to reduce their carbon footprint. Additionally, their creative mindsets can encourage new solutions to be formed.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed three simple and effective solutions to communicate current solutions; putting a heavier emphasis on sustainability in elementary school curriculums, have major telecommunication companies participate in environmental awareness weeks similar to 'Bell Let's Talk' and making television shows /online games to teach sustainability in an interactive way.

These are important because it teaches the younger generation how to adjust their day-to-day actions in order to take care of the planet. Additionally, the results of this education can lessen the effect of the Prisoner's dilemma- if all the world's future policy makers decide to take action to save the Earth, we would be able to mitigate our current problems.

We hope to make an impact on our proceeding generation to take responsibility from when they are young.

How We Developed This Project

We chose this challenge because we do not believe that there will be any substitute for Earth. Our approach to developing this project was deciding on the most effective ways to communicate already know small solutions, that can negate climate change to young children. We used a simple PowerPoint to show possibly ways to communicate problems and solutions associated with climate change.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Climate change data from NASA was used namely carbon dioxide concentration and global temperature readings. The significant increase of carbon dioxide concentration and global temperature worried us because these have significant impacts on the planet and therefore on our livelihoods.
