Mask-O Matic
Summary
Since the usage of masks are mandatory,we realized that the public was not well educated on how the masks can damage the environment.As recycling masks isn' t possible,the second best solution is to dispose them correctly.With that thought in mind we came up with our project ,which is called Mask- o Matic.Mask-o Matic is a machine which will give you points for every single mask you throw.And after you 've collected the necessary amount points in your card you will be able to use them for public transportation.Since we believe the pandemic won't last forever,we also came up with some alternatives for our project.Such as using it to recycle plastic bottles, waste batteries and etc.Thanks!
How We Addressed This Challenge
It is important because we are living in a time period where we have to wear masks and since a lot of people are uneducated on how to dispose them we decided to take action .
We believe with our project we can make a better environment for all kind of living creatures .We hope to minimize the pollution that the masks cause.And by encouraging people to use more public transportation,we also aim to reduce air pollution.
How We Developed This Project
While we were doing our research we came across some articles about birds getting tangled in mask straps and we also found out that the marine life can also be affected by it.In another article we read that the masks may have traces of virus on them which can cause the virus to spread more.We started off by drawing our design by hand and then asked for help from a professional with the 3D design(Autodesk 3D SMax).When we first joined the spaceapp challenge, we had an entirely different thing in mind.However, we decided that the idea wasn't good enough.So we kept on looking for a different idea and we realized that right now due to the pandemic masks are one of the biggest threat to the ecosystem.We decided that we needed to come up with an idea that would reduce the pollution caused by masks .That is how we came up with Mask-o Matic.
