Summary:

In this challenge we are developing the virtual reality videos on the effects of climate changes and it is important to educate the people on environmental conditions that we are facing now and in the future also, and also we developed a website in this website we’re providing games, fun activities, interactive activities, fun facts and our videos which we made in the Virtual mode are releases in this website.

There is lack of education and carelessness about the conditions of an environment, so that we want increase the conscious in the people with our project and the climate change is a global issue, so one should have to know about the environmental conditions that they are changing adversely day by day , and it work on the principle of impact of reality on the human brain.,

How we addressed this challenge:

Our project:

The ongoing pollution and the rate at which it is happening is one of the major problems. If we continue environmental pollution at same rate, it will have adverse effects on the future generations. They will not be able to experience the nature in pure form.

So, to overcome this situation, we developed this project called ‘Gavar’. The main idea of our project is to create VR videos, so that people get to experience the current scenario. We also developed a web application in which user can view more about the different types of pollution and we also included few games in the applications for people of different age groups.

Importance of this project:

Pollution in any form such as air, marine etc. have adverse effects on every living and non-living being. If air pollution is not controlled, by 2030 the air will become so poisonous that it will be necessary to use an oxygen kit to breathe easily. According to some report, worldwide use of plastic has increased 20-fold in the past 50 years, and it is expected to double again in the next 20 years. By 2050, we will be making more than three times as much plastic stuff as we did in 2014. If we keep producing (and failing to properly dispose of) plastics at predicted rates, plastics in the ocean will outweigh fish pound for pound in 2050.

COVID-19 became the opportunity for the earth to build a clear blue sky and clean the air. During the period of lockdown across the world, the sight of the blue sky created a sense of optimism among the people towards a clean and better environment. The positive effect of lockdown is to decrease the CO2 emission by −17% (−11 to −25%) by 7th April 2020 with respect to the mean level of emission in 2019. Air quality index (AQI) is the assessment of air quality. The lower the AQI value, the better is the air. The normal air quality index range is (100−200) and presently it is in the satisfactory range (50–100) category as reported by Gurfam being a scientist at SAFAR.

We all know that lockdown had negative impacts on global economy, people’s life etc. But looking at the above figures, we can understand that lockdown is associated with few positive effects too, so our suggestion is, If we continue this lockdown at least once for 5 years, so that it would show more positive impact on environment. If we look into these they can understand that, if we use public transport regularly, stop throwing industrial waste, fertilizers and plastic into rivers, and go out only required there a high possibility that we can save our nature.

The statistics mentioned above are alarming and it is important for us to reach out people of all generations and create awareness among them about the present situation and its impact on future too. We choose VR concept because, we can communicate with any person of any age group through video and it will really have a great impact on them.

Working:

As we mentioned earlier, our main aim is to create awareness among people about environmental pollution. To achieve this, we made a five-minute-long video in which we showed about clean environment and the bad side of pollution, how it effects food chain and organisms. To prove our points, we also included few statistics. We also included how lockdown due to covid-19 had a positive impact on pollution and what points we can learn from that. In our video, user can also see few people sharing their views on environment sustainability. We thought that including all these points in a five-minute video and user experiencing it virtually will have at least some impact on their mind and will start acting sensible and responsible towards environment.

As a part of our project we also developed a web application in which user can get to know more about pollution. We also included few games and fun activities for people of all age groups so that they can learn through the gaming experience. In website we also provided our details, so that user can reach us if they have any suggestions or feedback.

Our goal:

While developing this project we understood that the causes of pollution are not really a big thing. It is mainly due to human negligence. It is high time and is always said that ‘Better late than never’. At least now people should change their behaviour and start acting sensible. In this covid lockdown of 3 months the nature itself healed, so we want a lockdown for every 5 years, so that the pollution will decrease, and we can live a better life. Our goal is to convey people all these points through our project, sustain our environment for future generations and make the planet a better place to live.

How we developed this project:

Inspiration:

Our inspiration to take up this challenge and do this project came from the realization oof importance of saving the environment for our future generations. As we all know that there is a serious concern of the environmental deterioration happening at this rate and that we are responsible and accountable for it. Although there are many steps that are taken to spread awareness about this situation among people, we felt that it is not enough to educate the people about the seriousness of this situation. So, we thought to integrate the booming and upcoming technology like Virtual Reality to find a solution to this problem which would create a larger impact on people about the seriousness of this situation.

Approach:

For our solution to this problem, we came up with a website which can be accessed by anyone. Our main aim is to target all age groups of people and spread awareness about the importance of saving the environment for future generations and the adverse effects caused when this situation is not taken seriously. Our website contains some fun facts, games to attract children and youth, it mainly contains videos which can be viewed in Virtual Reality, to create a great impact by making them experience the present case scenario and the effects in future if the pollution rate continues at this rate so that people viewing them will know the importance of saving the environment. We would also like to show the positive impact created to the environment due to the lockdown period to people and make them understand that we are the main reason behind the pollution rate and the effected environment. We would like to make people realize the importance of controlling all the activities that lead to the pollution of the environment and make sure that we give the purest form of nature to the future generations.

General Introduction:

Our project, ‘Virtual World’ is a product comprising both website designing and VIRTUAL REALITY. Our product is a website that mainly contains VR videos to watch and experience today’s reality of pollution in the environment and its effects. Videos mainly comprises of different types of pollutions, views of different people over the pollution rate in the world and the effects of pollution, also contains the real time examples of how human life, aquatic life, and the whole ecosystem is getting effected by today’s pollution rate, contains how the lockdown gave a chance to the environment to heal itself which makes people realize the serious effects that are caused by them to the environment and make them realize that human beings are the ones that can save the environment and hand it over to the future generations at its purest form. So, all these videos will be available on our website and can be viewed in Virtual Reality mode.

Achievements:

We can create an impact in people about the environmental issues and experience it in virtual reality. We all know that virtual reality is an established and engaging service used to view diverse content and going to be the technology of our future. We know that several NGOs are working to bring a change in our society towards environmental issues by conducting campaigns and awareness camps, but it is not working for everyone. Hence, we created a website to make our children know about the consequences of pollution and various issues in our environment from their childhood and provide them a valuable upbringing about nature. Because we believe that our children are our future generation. We implemented interesting ways and strategies of learning for kids by including games, quizzes, and several fun filling activities so that from their schooling level they can be responsible. We are also providing our content in several languages to reach maximum number of people.

We are also continuing our work by releasing series of videos in our YouTube channel so that this positive impact can be taken forward.
