Sustaining Our Planet for Future Generations

There is concern worldwide that environmental issues we face today will have an impact on future generations. Your challenge is to create a way to communicate the importance of environmental responsibility to people of all ages.

Garbage, a cool footprint!

Summary

Our project, based on the challenge “Sustaining the planet for future generations”, aims at sensitizing the school community to environmental issues, highlighting the problem of the production of garbage generated daily in schools after class breaks, focusing on elementary school students , proposes to re-educate their consumption and encourage responsible behavior.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our idea is to develop an application that uses the concepts of gamification, as it is a playful, interactive tool, and that communicates well with this audience, addressing environmental issues, in the lives of children in elementary school. Its importance lies in the inherent potential of promoting a real revolution in the relationship of this public with the production of garbage, generating in the medium and long term, citizens more aware of their actions, and active in environmental issues, thus generating a change in behavior in users . Through the daily registration by the student, of the components of garbage generated after consuming the snack. Remembering that this is a prototype, and that other features may be included and / or suppressed. We hope that this project will be continually improved, adapting to socio-environmental demands, that it will be appreciated by legislators, municipal and state, and that it will be widely implemented throughout the state of Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil. Recalling that in 2018, according to IBGE, in Pernambuco alone we would be impacting the lives of 184,226 thousand children, in 753 schools, only in Recife, PE. However, in this first moment, we will contemplate only two schools, with different socioeconomic realities, so that we can evaluate the feasibility of the project.

How We Developed This Project

In addition to the environmental urgency, which is known to all, the discomfort generated after each break for school snacks, seeing dirty tables, and trash scattered on the floor, bathrooms crammed with paper on the floor and even inside the toilets, and all while we talk of actions to save the world, but we can't even deal with small daily habits. And, because these future citizens will care for and legislate for our mother earth; The annoyance of seeing science fairs every year does not impact the change in behavior of this student, who seem not to be present and are robots participating only by grade and the school itself does not realize all this and continues, all of them, as if nothing had happened. Anyway, it was these and other reasons that moved us to think about creating a tool that could awaken us to the way we relate to nature, making us see ourselves as part of it. The school's adhesion to the application will be voluntary, but we think of creating partnerships and tax compensations, when the alleged partnership we wish to formulate with public institutions. Knowing that the project would require more time and research, we chose, at that moment, to present a proposal that will need to be completed and perfected, however the guiding principles, the main ideas and the reasoning that guides and will guide the future project, we think we have been contemplated .

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We use data sources that address initiatives aimed at working with the theme of environmental education, in schools, these sites guided our formulation of ideas for the development of the project proposal, but when the app is actually created, we will decide on what such functional stages will definitely be applied. Mainly sites targeted at schools.
