Sustaining Our Planet for Future Generations

There is concern worldwide that environmental issues we face today will have an impact on future generations. Your challenge is to create a way to communicate the importance of environmental responsibility to people of all ages.

NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU GO...

Summary

This project was inspired by two perspectives in which we find ourselves today. On one hand, the objective of conquering other planets continues to be one of our priorities for future technological advances; at the same time the planet earth is in a stage of critical deterioration, due to global warming, heinous crimes committed by society, massive pollution and waste disposal to nature. We wanted to represent these perspectives on the right side of this piece where the earth is wrapped in a biohazard suit, the left side represents the search for knowledge and new horizons in the universe that’s why Mars appears wearing an astronaut suit facing to the opposite side.

How We Addressed This Challenge

“No matter how far you go” is an artwork that invites people to reflect upon the importance of environmental responsibility and take action. There is no doubt that when humanity unites for a given cause, great changes can be achieved, a clear example is COVID-19. We have witnessed the union of millions of people around the world to save lives. And we must be as well concerned to save our planet’s life. In contrast to the pandemic, the actions towards our environment have a long-term impact that sometimes may be difficult to regard, leading to an incomplete awareness of the damage that humanity has caused. Therefore, we considered significant to demonstrate it. It is important to our team to create consciousness towards this problem, because if we want to make a difference, all generations need to call attention on all of the current environmental issues and to generate a call to action. We believe that the sum of small actions can make a difference on the results and lead to progress and transformation.

How We Developed This Project

Our country has one of the largest biodiversity around the world, however, disregard and humanity crimes committed against the environment have damaged our natural wealth. We wanted to express our concerns despite living in a country that neglects environmental problems due to disinformation. Therefore, based on this current situation, we wanted to address this actions and the climate change issues happening on Earth as well as the impact of them. We focused on the duality between Mars and the Earth, the search for new horizons across the universe and planets, preserving the life we have on our own. We used Adobe Illustrator to create the artwork and Canva to craft our presentation. There were communication issues by working remotely that delayed us in some tasks, but we didn’t want them to interfere on the message we wanted to share.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

During the research, we use many tools provided from the Hackaton collaborators and partner agencies. First of all, NASA's gallery database was used in order to demonstrate the effects of the climate change on the Earth caused by human activities. Additionally, we used a comparison between different places of Earth throughout the years and see clearly the environemntal impact on them. Finally, we discuss about the data provided from NASA showing the statistics of the climate change and we take into account in the purpose of the solution's design.
