Summary

In this project we touched upon one of the global environmental catastrophes in modern Russia, which has existed for several decades and entails the destruction of the ecosystem and an increase in the number of chronic diseases of the population. We analyzed the information of open sources, comprehensively investigated the problem for the best understanding of causation, proposed various options and ways to solve the problem: changes in legislation, tightening inspections and precautions at the enterprise, improving the cleaning and filtering system of the enterprise. They also predicted qualitative changes based on the experience of international companies.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We have developed a concept for a company that will be able to carry out effective technical and environmental control, as well as effectively cooperate with both industry companies, independent corporations and the state.

We have also prepared a plan of relevant amendments to the current Russian environmental legislation, the imperfection of which is the cause of many accidents.

Moreover, our team provided a number of recommendations for the internal management of the company after the catastrophe of 2020 and the crisis.

How We Developed This Project

This problem is not widely covered in the Russian media, but this does not deny that it is global and significant not only for Russia, but for the whole world. This prompted us to comprehensively analyze it and search for solutions at all levels of government: from the company's management bodies to changing the legislative system.

First of all, we analyzed the general environmental situation in Norilsk. Then they compared the principles of operation of treatment facilities at the factories of Norilsk Nickel and the Swedish plant. Based on the data obtained, we have developed a number of measures that are outlined above.
