ORBS aims to communicate the consequences of marine pollution and the mission of bringing synthesized data that can be disseminated according to the existing technology in the partner companies.
The importance of transforming NASA data into an API aimed at the collection and recycling of material harmful to the oceans, involves the need to effectively communicate the risk that exists for future generations
Because it is an API, the information is organized in such a way that several customers would have access to the data without the need for personalized development.
We want projects like ORBS to be spread around the world in a simple way and to be able to adapt to local needs through the intelligence applied in the API.
The possibility of adopting a socially engaged solution for the reduction of environmental disasters was, from the beginning, an inspiration for our team to face this challenge.
One of the biggest difficulties faced by our team was deciding which concern would be addressed with our solution.
The challenge allows a series of issues to be debated and ORBS directed its efforts to reduce the environmental impact present in the oceans.
As for the current phase of API implementation, we use the Python programming language, Flask framework and the SQLite database to validate essential functions in our project, such as the integration between an intelligent trash bin and the data storage for this action.
It was necessary to interpret various data related to marine pollution to adapt to the process defined for the ORBS solution.
Movement of sea currents, route of plastic waste to the ocean, degradation of solid materials exposed to the marine environment and the consequence of the presence of this material in animal life were some of the materials made available by NASA and which were analyzed.
