Summary

A mobile application that detects illegal forest activities in the map. By providing users statistical data from NASA data set via 3D earth model visualization, it raises awareness towards the condition of our forestry.The main feature of the app is a visualization of data about the illegal logging activities in the map.It has a Reporting System and uses Geo-tagging Technology that enables the user to report illegal logging activities.

How We Addressed This Challenge

I Care, I'm Groot.

We benchmarked a device that detects possible illegal logging activities developed by a young pinay inventor. She developed an alerting device that has a motion sensor, heat sensor and sound sensor that effectively detects illegal logging activities. Philippines has around 16 million hectares of virgin forests, but according to Bengwayan it’s already down to more or less 700, 000 hectares due to illegal logging. this includes illegal logging of species, illegal methods of logging like permit less logging and slash and burn.

The app is mainly a visualization of data that the device send to the cloud server. The device will send data when any sensor is triggered. The app now will notify and alert users that there is a illegal forest activity in that area. The app also has a Reporting System and uses Geo-tagging Technology that enables the user to report illegal logging activities. We have a lot of future plans for our app. We hope this idea would help our nature and also our government to protect our nature.

How We Developed This Project

Figure 1. illustrates the conceptual framework of the project. The structure covers the components needed for sending the violation to the officials and getting data for visualization. The mobile user will provide the details for sending the report with the geotagged image. The cloud database will receive the data acquired from the user. Lastly, the web application will receive and display the information with visualization using google maps API to be accessed by the officials

Using statistical data from NASA data set via 3D earth model visualization. The data will help users analyze the forest condition around the globe in a creative way.
