There is concern worldwide that environmental issues we face today will have an impact on future generations. Your challenge is to create a way to communicate the importance of environmental responsibility to people of all ages.

Summary

Considering the seriousness of the problem the teams are trying to solve and the need of a greater ecological awareness in society, Gaia Filius's goal is to create a way to help the environment in which everyone wants to participate actively. The project addresses, in all its functions, environmental issues. It features an exhibition of the latest news and a space reserved for satellite monitoring, making users reflect on whether the environment is really being preserved. Other than that, through sustentable competition, the app brings a series of challenges in order to encourage participants to change their habits and start helping the planet effectively, with small actions.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Social networks have grown in recent years in a surreal way, showing how much the world population likes this type of tool. They have managed in an incredible way to connect all generations in the same space, being an extremely important means of spreading news and data. In this way, it is well known that an important topic, such as the preservation of the environment, would attract more attention and have greater reach among all if it were addressed in these media. 


Thinking about it,GO GAIA appears! A social network with an environmental focus, which proposes its users to interact, post photos and share information in their feed and interact with other users. Unlike other networks, the posts are about how participants are working hard to save the planet and ensure the future of the next generations. 


GO GAIA works as a sustainable competition, where there are a series of challenges aimed at helping the environment and as they are met, the user rises in the ranking and collects achievements. Also thinking about those who do not like to share their experiences and still want to participate, we provide a tab of informative articles that are loaded directly from NASA pages. In addition, we brought the proposal to index satellites that report on deforestation, water levels and fires, so that these data are monitored by all citizens. Finally, taking into account that children should learn in a more playful way, we created the Kids Function, where they will only have access to the games that were specially selected for them, allowing sustainability to be something worked on in their lives from an early age and in a healthy way .


We aim to popularize the sharing of information and actions that emphasize the importance of environmental awareness, among people of all ages and from all over the world, to save our planet and ensure adequate conditions for the next generations. We hope that information and challenges will motivate people to make a difference.

How We Developed This Project

Humanity currently faces one of the greatest challenges in history: restoring a balance between the existence of existence and the health of the environment, in addition to guaranteeing the conditions defined for the new generations. There are several tools, information and actions by activists related to the environment, which present their environmental impacts, but not all of society is aware of them. We want information to be compiled in an accessible and interactive way and to be disseminated to as many people of all ages as possible, so that each one is an agent of change.


We take into account that in order to develop a product, it is extremely necessary to know the acceptance that it would have, so that the proposed solution is as viable as possible. In this way, the GAIA FILIUS team interviewed 63 people through “Google Forms”, where we analyzed the interest in the topic, in the use of the platform. We managed to reach people of different ages (from 10 to 60 years old), and all the interviewees said they would use a social network in which one can also help the planet. 


In addition, the social network was built based on the gamification methodology, which is a strategy that serves as a learning fuel, associating educational content with missions and challenges that allow a movement to expand the depth of the subjects.


We used the "MIRO" platform to organize the scope of the project and carry out a business plan, which was followed by a search on “Google Forms”. The information was compiled in “Google Docs” and served as a basis for the application's layouts, which were created on the Canva platform. The application prototype was created by “InvisionApp”. The videos were edited on the “PowToon” and “Clipchamp Create” platforms.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Data from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was crucial to the project. As our proposal is to make people aware of all environmental issues, we have indexed in our social network, the data made available by NASA in several of its platforms, to concentrate such information in a single interactive space. 


Thus, in the "Articles" tab we load news of disasters in the environment (which are alarming), such as the thawing of glaciers, deforestation of forests and vegetative areas, fires that occurred around the world, among other news imported from the main ones on official websites. agency, such as Global Climate Change.


Furthermore, in the “Satellites” tab, the sites referring to satellites that measure sea level (Jason-3), the satellite that will be launched in November this year (Sentinel-6) and the platform that indicates the fire and burn outbreaks, the Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS). We also provide a tool that will cross-check the data from the satellites presented, so that people can compare different facts and get awareness of what is happening on our home planet. 


The use of images and videos taken from the NASA database was used to contextualize the project and to deepen the problem in question and various information extracted from its website. For early childhood education, we index children's games on the NASA Climate kids platform, which contains quality content prepared by specialized people.
